English Language Learners
The goal of the English Language Learner (ELL) program is
to facilitate the education of an English language learner
whose native language is other than English and who is not
yet proficient in English.
All instruction in the ELL program is in English and incorporates
the four basic skill areas of listening, speaking, reading,
and writing. The curriculum in all structured English immersion
courses is aligned with the Arizona State Standards as assessed
by AIMS.
In 2006, the Glendale Union High School District ELL program
was recognized by the Arizona Department of Education as recipient
of the English Acquisition Services Leadership 'Spotlight
on Success' award. The ELL program was also honored as a Model
ELL Program by the Arizona School Public Relations Association
in 2006.
English Language Learners coordinator is Karen
Merritt.
