Brian Capistran to lead Glendale Union High School District
New superintendent, Brian Capistran, has spent his entire career serving the GUHSD community. After graduating from Glendale High School, Mr. Capistran attended the University of Arizona, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Secondary Education. He has a Master of Arts in Education.
Mr. Capistran’s career first began at Sunnyslope High School, where he was a teacher. His experiences and passion for education continued in his role as a principal at Apollo High School. Mr. Capistran has also served Glendale Union as assistant principal, school safety administrator, assistant superintendent of student services and as associate superintendent of curriculum and instruction.
He has applied his professional preparation and extensive experiences as a teacher and leader to make several contributions to the success of the Glendale Union High School District.
Mr. Capistran was instrumental in working with local administration, faculty and staff to focus efforts on student success. Results of this collaborative effort were made evident when the district was awarded the Advanced Placement District of the Year award for 2013. The district beat out like-sized school districts from across the United States to receive this prestigious honor.
Student success was also recognized in 2014 when each of the district’s nine high school’s received an “A” rating from the Arizona Department of Education.
Mr. Capistran serves on the Governor’s Classrooms First Initiative Council and the Arizona Commission for Postsecondary Education, in addition to being a positive force within the Glendale and Phoenix communities to advocate for student achievement and success.
