Applied Technology

Each of our nine high schools offers a variety of Career and Technical Education courses that are categorized as Applied Technology.  All schools offer Computer Aided Drafting (CAD). Other applied technology courses offered at various GUHSD high schools include:

  • Cabinetmaking
  • Automotives
  • Metals
  • CISCO Networking Academies

Students who take several applied technology courses within a program area (Drafting, Cabinetmaking, Metalworking or Automotives), which prepare students for employment in an occupation, gain applied competency-based academic knowledge, higher-order reasoning and problem-solving skills, work attitudes, general employability skills, technical skills, and occupational-specific skills.

The curriculum for all these courses is aligned with the Arizona Career and Technical Education Curriculum Framework.  It is our goal to prepare individuals for further education and/or for careers in current or emerging employment sectors by offering courses which provide students with academic and technical knowledge and skills.

NOTE:  In order to be in compliance with Arizona State Graduation Requirements, a student must complete one credit of fine arts OR one credit of Career and Technical Education. There are numerous vocational classes available at each high school to meet this graduation requirement.
