Volunteers Supercharge Our Schools by Vicki Johnson, Governing Board Member

Our volunteer helpers truly 'supercharge' our schools. One of the most enjoyable board meetings each year is the annual recognition of our outstanding school volunteers who do so much for our students. They add that special touch to our athletic and other extracurricular programs, raise funds for needed improvements and assist our teachers and support staff in a variety of jobs on and off-campus.

Having been a parent volunteer myself, I know how much hard work is connected with the many substantial projects that take place in a high school. School volunteers give a lot of themselves, but the rewards are many. From pride in a job well done to that special smile or 'thank you' from a student, volunteering gives a self satisfaction that makes it all worthwhile.

There are other benefits for parent volunteers. It is widely accepted that when parents are involved, their children are more likely to succeed. This is true whether your child is in first grade or in high school. What can you do at your high school? Here are a few more suggestions:

You Can Help!

  • Sell concessions, take photos or help with athletic awards banquets
  • Chaperone an educational trip or serve as guest presenter in a class
  • Help with bookkeeping and filing
  • Sponsor fundraising events or donate items
  • Build theater sets for upcoming performances
  • Attend school events to show your support of teens' efforts
  • Get involved! Ask your school how you can help.

We welcome parental involvement in our high schools. Please join us in our common goal of Driving Success for our students.
