May 3, 2018

All Glendale Union High School District schools will reopen on Friday, May 4. All schools will be following their normal class schedule.

We know you have questions regarding the completion of this school year. The following points are answers to frequently asked questions:

  • Like many high school districts in the state, GUHSD will NOT require students to make up days missed due to the school closure. By the end of the school year we will have the number of instructional minutes required by state law and will end the school year as previously scheduled.

  • Graduations will proceed as scheduled and diplomas will be issued at graduations.

  • Advanced Placement (AP) exams will be taken on the regularly scheduled exam dates.

We look forward to welcoming students and staff back to school on Friday and are prepared for a strong finish to the 2017-2018 school year. Thank you for your continued support.

April 23, 2018

Dear GUHSD Parents & Guardians,

Due to the statewide teacher walkout, we will not have the necessary staffing to keep our schools open.

All Glendale Union High School District schools will be closed starting Thursday, April 26. All schools will remain closed until further notice.

At this time, we cannot determine the duration of time our schools will be closed, but we do know that the number of days our schools are closed will be added to the end of the school year in order to reach the state required number of instructional days.

It is important to know:

  • School closures will not affect the date of graduation ceremonies; however, students may be required to attend class after the ceremony to complete the days added to the school year. Diplomas will not be issued at graduations, rather when all requirements for graduation are met.
  • Cafeterias will be open at all district schools and free-and-reduced breakfast and lunch will be served to students participating in this program. Transportation will not be provided.
  • Students will take Advanced Placement exams on the scheduled date of the exams. Parents will be notified if exams have to be rescheduled.
  • Most school events will be canceled or rescheduled. Out-of-state and overnight field trips would continue as planned, provided there is appropriate supervision available.
  • Prom is a major event scheduled outside the school day and will continue, provided there is appropriate supervision available.
  • We will allow our varsity teams and athletes who qualified for state playoffs, meets, or tournaments to participate, provided there is appropriate supervision available.

We will contact parents by phone and/or email (if provided to the school) to inform them when school will reopen. Updates will be shared on the district website guhsdaz.org and on social media (FACEBOOK and TWITTER).

We appreciate your continued support of our schools while these statewide actions are underway. Please contact your child’s school if you have any questions. Thank you for your patience at this time.

An important message from the Glendale Union High School District

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Last night, we all heard the announcement that teachers across our state voted to enact a walkout beginning next Thursday, April 26th. No information was given on the length of that walkout. Additionally, the group has called for more walk-ins to take place before school next Monday-Wednesday.

Today, GUHSD and districts throughout the state are analyzing the most recent information from last night’s announcement to finalize a plan on exactly how they will operate, including whether schools will remain open or be closed during a walkout. We will communicate with you again early next week once our plan is finalized.

We appreciate your continued support of our students, our teachers, and our schools while these statewide actions are underway.

*Note: We will continue to communicate by email and our phone notification system. We will post all updated messages on our website and social media pages. Facebook | Twitter. Please make sure that your phone numbers and email addresses are current at your child's school.
