Moon Valley Receives Spotlight on Success Award

Moon Valley Receives Spotlight on Success Award
November 2010 - At the 2010 Spotlight on Success luncheon on November 16, Moon Valley was one of 12 schools and programs recognized for their innovation. Moon Valley received the High School Renewal award for their efforts to improve freshman transition.

Helping students make the transition from middle school to high school has been a focus of Moon Valley for the past few years. Staff members have attended a number of conferences to learn about setting up small learning communities of students and teachers. In addition, Moon Valley implements a freshman transition program called LINK Crew, where upperclassmen act as mentors to ease the transition. Freshman transition is an initiative that is district-wide and a focus of all GUHSD schools.

The Arizona Department of Education determines the winners of each award given – there is no nomination or application to enter. This accomplishment is only made possible by the whole team of people that have worked to decrease freshmen failure rate, increase test scores, and hold students more accountable for their actions.
