THS NJROTC Receives Top Honors Again
April 2011 - The NJROTC Area Manager, Commander Kenneth Liles, takes great pleasure in announcing that the Naval Junior Reserve Officers Training Unit at Thunderbird High School has been selected to again receive the annual Distinguished Unit Award. This honor recognizes the unit’s outstanding performance at the annual military inspection, superior demonstrated service to the school and community, excellent quality of program administrative management, superb adherence to naval science instructional objectives, and exceptional quality of co-curricular and extra-curricular activities.  This award identifies Thunderbird's unit as one of the top 20% of the 633 NJROTC units in the nation. This NJROTC unit has received national recognition for excellence by the U.S. Navy 17 times over the past 20 years, which is more than any other NJROTC Unit in our district, state or area.  According to Commander Liles, “This is an outstanding achievement by any standard and clearly reinforces the reputation of Thunderbird NJROTC program as one of the best in the nation.” The Naval Science instructors are Chief Warrant Officer Christopher J. Houston and Bosin Mate Senior Chief Glenn Shepherd.
