Community Relations Department Honored at State Level
April 2011 - The GUHSD Community Relations department was recently recognized for their efforts at the Arizona School PR Association (ASPRA) luncheon on April 21 at Chandler Center for the Arts. Eight entries from GUHSD were submitted in the category of specific programs, and all eight received recognition. Seven of these programs received the top honor of Awards of Excellence, with only 28 such awards given state-wide. One Award of Distinction was also received.

Here are summaries of the award-winning programs that go on in Community Relations:

Awards of Excellence
  • Principal Packet -This annual packet gives each principal a list of vital dates, timelines/deadlines, forms, checklists, sample speeches and letters, protocol, and additional information to ensure success.
  • Parent Email Blast - This monthly email to parents contains timely information relevant to all parents in the district, featuring academic definitions, facts about district achievements, and tips to stay involved in their child's education.
  • Daily News Group - News articles featuring GUHSD students and employees are emailed to subscribing employees each day to promote good press and events.
  • You Made the News - News articles featuring GUHSD students are emailed to parents of the students featured to recognize students' achievements and build relationships with parents.
  • District Websites - Each school and district has their own frequently-updated site that features news, honors received, calendar, school and teacher contact information, pages for clubs and sports teams, and much more information pertinent to parents and the community.
  • Centennial Websites - To communicate the details of the district's centennial this year, a website was created that includes a history of the district, pictures from the entire history of the district, calendar of events, Wall of Fame, link to donate to centennial scholarship fund, and ways for alumni to get involved.
  • Promotional Folder - A folder to be distributed to community members and parents is created each year that contains publications about governing board members, tax credit contributions, checking grades online, awards and achievements of the district, the district's core values, and district attendance boundaries.
Award of Distinction
  • Media Book - At the end of each year, newspaper clippings from throughout the year featuring GUHSD students and staff are gathered and organized chronologically into a professionally-bound book that is displayed at each site and shared with community members.
