GUHSD Students Make a Difference

May 2011 - GUHSD students from across the district have made a huge difference in their communities this school year. Service organizations like Student Council and National Honor Society have logged thousands of hours in a variety of capacities to serve needs on campus and in their neighborhoods.

Student Council could be seen helping out at many school events, including assemblies, spirit week, parades, blood drives, food drives, and a carnival. They also facilitated the district-wide CAN-petition, where schools competed to collect the most canned food items to donate to their campus or local food bank.

Students in National Honor Society reach out to those in need within their school, neighborhood, and greater community. NHS students log service hours through volunteering with carnivals and festivals, adopt-a-family programs, benefit walks, retirement homes, parades, elementary school events, hospitals, nursing homes, churches, and tutoring.

Schools vary in their specific projects and time requirements but share a common commitment and passion for helping those around them.
