June 2016 – When students at Greenway and Moon Valley return to campuses this fall, they will have new leadership at the helm. Greenway will be led by Principal Jon Vreeken and Moon Valley’s new principal is Anat Salyer. Although their positions are new, their commitment to the Glendale Union High School District is quite established.

Anat Salyer, Moon Valley High School Principal

Ms. Salyer graduated from Sunnyslope High School in 1995 and then went on to the University of Arizona, where she earned a bachelor’s of science degree in math education. Salyer

She returned to Sunnyslope, where she taught for 11 years. Her content area focused on math and her classes ranged from math lab to honors pre-calculus. Two of those years were spent as the math intervention specialist, where she worked with high-achieving students and at-risk students.

In 2012, Ms. Salyer became the Assistant Principal for Discipline and Attendance at Glendale High School. She then joined the team at Moon Valley as the Assistant Principal for Discipline and Attendance before moving into the position of Assistant Principal for Student Services.

“I’ve been part of the Moon Valley family for four years and I feel honored and privileged to be able to continue this voyage,” she said. “The staff, parents, students and community that surround Moon Valley are like no other. Their loyalty, commitment and hard work is without bounds. I look forward to next year to be part of the excellence that Moon Valley is known for.”

Jon Vreeken, Greenway High School Principal

Mr. Vreeken began his teaching career in the Clark County School District in Las Vegas, Nevada in 1993. He relocated to Phoenix in 2004, where he was hired as a teacher. He taught U.S. Government, World History and Advanced Placement World History, all levels of English and courses for English Language Learners at Glendale High School. Vreeken
He spent 16 years as a teacher there before becoming the Assistant Principal of Discipline and Attendance at Thunderbird High School in 2009.

From 2010-2015, Mr. Vreeken served as Assistant Principal of Discipline and Attendance and then as Assistant Principal of Student Services at Glendale High School. In 2015, he became the Assistant Principal for Student Services at Independence High School.

“When I joined the district in 2004, I had already taught for 11 years,” he said. “Its learning system, its mentoring program, and its core values made me a better educator. I am excited to be a Greenway Demon and am honored to be part of its tradition of excellence. I look forward to creating strong relationships with students, parents, staff and the community.”

We welcome Principal Salyer and Principal Vreeken to their new roles, knowing they will continue traditions of excellence, dedication and preparedness for students of the Glendale Union High School District.
