Apollo senior Zona Sawby is GUHSD’s 2018 National Merit Semifinalist. She was presented with a certificate of recognition by the GUHSD Governing Board during its Sept. 20 meeting.

1.6 million juniors in more than 22,000 high schools in the United States entered the 2018 National Merit Program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test in October of 2016.   In early September of this year, about 16,000 students were notified that they qualified as Semifinalists.  They have earned the right to continue in the national competition for the Merit Scholarships worth approximately $48 million. In February, some 15,000 Semifinalists will be notified that they have advanced to Finalist standing. These students represent less than 1 percent of the very best and brightest high school seniors in the entire country. They are the highest scoring entrants in each state and among the top performers in the nation.

Congratulations Ms. Sawby!
