PROJECT AWARE GRANT - PROMOTING POSITIVE MENTAL HEALTH

Glendale Union High School District continues to increase awareness and prevention of mental health issues and make ways to develop healthy practices to support students in school.

We are proud to announce that GUHSD is one of three Arizona school districts to receive a five-year grant to address mental health awareness. The grant, titled Project AWARE, is designed to:

  1. Build and support a sustainable infrastructure for a comprehensive school mental health system with established pathways to community-based supports and services for school-aged youth and their families;
  2. Create sustainable engagement strategies with students, families, and community partners to promote mental health, wellbeing, resilience by increasing community/student involvement in policy development and decision making; and
  3. Increase knowledge, skill, and ability of school staff, families, and the community to identify, respond, and support students experiencing a mental health and wellness need.

Additional details, including survey and family engagement opportunities, will be forthcoming after Spring Break from your local school.

If you have questions about Project AWARE, feel free to reach out to the Community Project Manager, Natalie Schoenbauer, at 623-435-6032.

February 15, 2022-
The following information was sent to parents via email and phone dialer.

Today we are writing to provide two important updates on the following topics:

  • MASKS
  •  UPCOMING VACCINE EVENT

MASKS
When we implemented our mask requirement on January 4, 2022
, due to a drastic increase in the number of positive COVID-19 cases, we indicated that we were focusing on two goals. These goals were to help students, staff, and the community remain healthy and to keep our schools open for in-person learning.

Since the implementation of the mask requirement during the surge of COVID-19 cases, the cases have peaked and have been decreasing rapidly. Fewer people are contracting COVID-19, and there are far fewer absences by students and staff. We are no longer on the brink of having to close schools, due to not having enough healthy students and staff to keep our schools open.

DATA UPDATE
Here are some updates on the COVID-19 data we have been monitoring:

  • Since the implementation of the mask requirement, the cases have peaked and have been decreasing steadily for the past several weeks, according to COVID-19 data released every Thursday by the Maricopa County Department of Public Health.
  • Last Thursday, February 10, the COVID-19 cases within the GUHSD boundaries were almost as low as they were before winter break, when we did not have a mask requirement. This drastic drop in cases each week indicates that by this Thursday the case numbers will be at or below where they were before the mask requirement was implemented.
  • Last Friday, February 11, the GUHSD COVID-19 Data Dashboard indicated that active COVID-19 cases among all GUHSD students and staff dropped from 146 to 31 in a two-week period of time.

SUMMARY OF DATA AND NEXT STEPS
The COVID-19 numbers show a rapid downward trend in cases within the GUHSD geographic area, as well as a steep decline in the number of active cases within our schools.

This information has led us to the decision that the mask requirement in GUHSD will be lifted at the end of the business day this Friday, February 18, 2022.

While masks will still be strongly recommended, due to continued guidance by the CDC, face masks for students, staff, and visitors in GUHSD buildings will no longer be required beginning Tuesday, February 22, 2022.

We understand that many students and staff will continue wearing a mask and some will choose not to wear one. We will have a supportive environment for either option.

UPCOMING VACCINE EVENT
As a continued service to our GUHSD community, we have scheduled another vaccination event at the end of this month.

First, second, and booster vaccines will be available on Monday, February 28, 2022, from 3:30-7:30 pm in the Thunderbird High School cafeteria.

Thunderbird High School is located at 1750 W. Thunderbird Road in Phoenix.

Please visit the Adelante HealthCare website for the vaccine forms and more information.

FINAL REMARKS
We hope you have a great week and as a reminder, there will be no school on Monday, February 21, in observance of Presidents’ Day. We wish all of you an enjoyable three-day weekend with your family and friends.

February 11, 2022-
The following information was sent to parents via email and phone dialer.

$22 MILLION IN GUHSD BUDGET
AT RISK DUE TO AGGREGATE EXPENDITURE LIMIT (AEL)

Today, we want to alert our families of a school funding issue that could impact GUHSD and all other Arizona school districts.

District schools across the state are facing a cut of $1.2 billion if a resolution pertaining to the Aggregate Expenditure Limit (AEL) is not passed by March 1, 2022.

WHAT IS THE AGGREGATE EXPENDITURE LIMIT (AEL)?

  • Arizona voters passed a measure in 1980 that limits, through a funding formula for K-12 schools, how much district public schools can spend in a year. This is known as the Aggregate Expenditure Limit (AEL), which is the total amount that all K-12 schools are allowed to spend each year. Charter school spending is not included in the AEL.

WHY IS THE AEL A CURRENT ISSUE?

  • Proposition 301, the voter-approved sales tax initiative that provided funds to Arizona schools, was originally passed in 2000 and was exempt from the AEL for 20 years.

The legislature extended the sales tax in 2018 but did not ask the voters to renew the exemption from the AEL. Due to this, approximately $600 million of once excluded funds are now included in the expenditure limit calculation, impacting school districts.

  • In recent years, the legislature restored prior funding cuts to school districts as well as increased funding for teacher salaries. This has increased the spending amounts that are included in the expenditure limit calculation.

  • The spending cap is based on prior year student enrollment. The COVID-19 related decrease in enrollment in Arizona schools last year is impacting this year’s spending limit, even though student enrollment is increasing and continues to trend back toward pre-pandemic levels.

WHY IS THE AEL A CONCERN FOR AZ SCHOOL DISTRICTS?

  • The AEL is a spending cap and determines how much, in aggregate, all districts combined can spend. Districts cannot use the $1.2 billion of appropriated funding for the remainder of this school year unless lawmakers suspend a cap on how much K-12 school districts can spend during an academic year.

  • Each year districts build their budget based on the funding promised by the state, and dollars for the 2021-2022 school year were approved in June 2021 by the Governor.

  • If the legislature and the Governor act by March 1, 2022, school districts will have the authority to spend the money that the legislature and the Governor have already provided through the state budget.

  • Without legislative action, public school districts across the state will need to cut $1.2 billion from their budgets. This will result in the largest cut to education in any single year with the average cut being over 16% of a school district’s budget.

  • Asking the legislature to waive the AEL is not asking for new money or creating a new tax. It is asking that school districts be allowed to continue spending the dollars that have been allocated for this school year.

  • Arizona school districts have already committed their 2021-2022 school year budget to pay the faculty and staff and to operate schools until the end of the school year.

HOW DOES THIS IMPACT GUHSD?

  • If the legislature and Governor do not act to approve a change to the spending limit by March 1, 2022, GUHSD will be required to reduce the current year budget by over $22 million in the fourth quarter of the fiscal year.  A budget cut of this size would not only affect this year’s budget and operations, but it would also affect subsequent years as well.

  • If the legislature and Governor approve a change to the AEL by March 1, GUHSD will have the authority to continue spending the money that the state already approved and provided.

PARENT/GUARDIAN AND COMMUNITY INPUT

Parents/guardians and community members are asking how they can contact their legislators regarding this matter. If you would like to call or email your legislators on this issue, you can find their contact information here

  • DAILY HEALTH CHECKS
  • GUHSD IS HIRING

NEW ISOLATION/CLOSE CONTACT/QUARANTINE GUIDANCE The CDC and Arizona Department of Health Services released new quarantine, close contact, and isolation guidance for K-12 schools. These new guidelines allow students to return to school sooner following isolation and, in some cases, to avoid quarantine.

GUHSD’s guidance has been updated. It can be found here on our website.

COVID TESTING SITES GUHSD, in partnership with Embry Health, will continue to offer the free drive-through testing program at eight of our schools. Information, including locations, operating days/times, can be found here

Additional vaccination sites can be found here on the Maricopa County Public Health website.

DAILY HEALTH CHECKS As part of GUHSD’s mitigation plan, we are asking everyone to continue performing a daily health check before coming to school each day. This health assessment consists of the following:

staying home from school if they feel ill, and/or have any of the following:

  • fever of 100.4 degrees or higher, or chills,
  • shortness of breath or difficulty breathing,
  • muscle aches,
  • sore throat,
  • headache,
  • fatigue,
  • change in congestion or runny nose not related to allergies,
  • cough,
  • vomiting,
  • diarrhea,
  • new loss of taste or smell, and/or
  •  have tested positive for COVID-19

This list may not include all possible symptoms. The CDC will continue to update this list as more is learned about COVID-19.

Staying home when sick is essential to keep COVID-19 infections out of schools and prevent the spread to others. Please notify your teen’s school if they are feeling ill, have tested positive for COVID-19, and/or have been exposed to COVID-19.

GUHSD IS HIRING The new year is the perfect time to explore new job opportunities. At GUHSD we offer exciting full-time and part-time positions in a variety of fields of expertise. January 3, 2022-
The following information was sent to parents via email and phone dialer.

We hope you and your family had an enjoyable winter break. We look forward to welcoming our students back to school tomorrow, Tuesday, January 4, 2022.

The purpose of this message is to provide information about an additional mitigation strategy we are putting into place in GUHSD.

As we have seen over the past few weeks, the Omicron variant has resulted in an unprecedented number of positive COVID cases. Before winter break, the daily number of new cases in Arizona was approximately 3,000. During the winter break the daily cases rose to 5,000 before increasing to 7,000 to 8,000 cases per day.

This surge is causing some schools around the country to return to remote learning. Additional ramifications of the surge are hospitals, fire departments, and other organizations struggling to maintain an adequate workforce, due to the high number of employees testing positive for COVID.

Throughout the pandemic, we have maintained our focus on the health and safety of students and staff and the desire to keep our schools open to in-person learning. We did have to transition to remote learning twice during the pandemic, but even then, our goal remained the same, to return to in-person learning as soon as we could do it safely.

In order to help keep our students, staff, and community healthy and to make every effort to have our schools remain open for in-person learning, we need to implement another level of mitigation. Our next step is to require all students, staff, and visitors to wear a mask over their nose and mouth while inside any school or district building.

This requirement will go into effect Tuesday, January 4. We will monitor the cases and the advice of health experts to evaluate the mask requirement on a regular basis. The first review will take place no later than January 28, 2022.

GUHSD Mask Requirement Summary

  • Effective Tuesday, January, 4, 2022
  • Applies to all students, employees, and visitors while inside GUHSD buildings
  • Additional information regarding specialty programs and athletics is forthcoming
  • Please bring a mask to school on Tuesday, January 4, 2022

We understand there will be differing opinions about this decision, and we ask that you remember the reasons we are implementing a mask requirement. Wearing masks will help keep our students, staff, and community healthy. Additionally, wearing masks will help keep our schools open during this surge of COVID cases.

Thank you in advance for understanding the need to implement this mitigation strategy. We are thankful for your partnership as we work to help keep students and staff safe and our schools open for in-person learning.

IMPORTANT
 -
STAY HOME WHEN SICK

HEALTH SCREENING: As part of the GUHSD mitigation plan,  your teen needs to stay home from school if they

                           ᐤ feel ill,

have tested positive for COVID-19,

MORE INFORMATION:
Staying home when sick is essential to keep COVID-19 infections out of schools and prevent the spread to others. It is also essential for people who are not vaccinated to quarantine after a recent exposure to someone with COVID-19.

One of the mitigation strategies that helps to keep infections out of our schools is by asking for all students to complete a daily health screening before coming to school. We are asking for your assistance to ensure the health screening steps listed above are performed before your teen leaves your residence for school.

Additionally, we ask for you to notify the
school if your teen is feeling ill or has tested positive for COVID-19 and/or has been in close contact with a person who has tested positive for COVID-19.

STAY HOME WHEN SICK

HEALTH SCREENING: As part of GUHSD's mitigation strategy,  your teen needs to stay home from school if they
                                    ᐤ feel ill,

have tested positive for COVID-19,

have
COVID-19 symptoms, or

had close contact with someone who has tested positive.

MORE INFORMATION:
Arizona continues to experience high levels of community transmission with COVID-19 case rates unexpectedly climbing over the past few weeks.

Staying home when sick is essential to keep COVID-19 infections out of schools and prevent spread to others.

The following information was sent to parents via email and phone dialer.

Dear GUHSD Parents/Guardians:

WARNING FOR PARENTS/GUARDIANS

GUHSD is aware of the monthly TikTok challenges being promoted across the state and nation. These challenges encourage students to participate in acts of violence, theft, and vandalism while at school. Students film themselves engaging in these acts and post the footage on various social media sites.

These challenges are escalating in severity. Sadly, the latest challenge encourages students to slap a teacher/staff member.

GUHSD will not tolerate inappropriate behavior toward teachers/staff members or fellow students. Nor will vandalism or destruction of school property be tolerated.

We are reaching out to you to ask for help. Please speak to your teen about these dangerous trends. Please discourage them from participating in these challenges and remind them that engaging in the activity being encouraged by social media would subject them to serious disciplinary consequences from the school. Moreover, engaging in these challenges could result in criminal charges

Thank you for your help in keeping our schools’ safe.

Today we are providing you the following updates, which include new opportunities for both our students and our community.

  • *NEW* AFTER SCHOOL LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES
  • TIKTOK CHALLENGE OCCURRING IN SCHOOLS
  • COVID-19 TESTING OPPORTUNITIES TO BEGIN NEXT WEEK
  • COVID-19 REMINDERS

GUHSD OFFERS ADDITIONAL STUDENT SUPPORT

GUHSD is committed to supporting our students and helping them achieve success. Beginning next week, all GUHSD schools will provide an additional space for students to study, receive additional academic support, and engage in other activities in a safe environment.

Media center hours will be extended until 6:30 pm several days a week and media centers will also begin opening for three hours on Saturdays. Specific details of each school’s media center schedule will be provided to students on the daily announcements.

TIKTOK CHALLENGE OCCURRING IN SCHOOLS

GUHSD is aware of the viral TikTok challenge, Devious Lick, occurring in schools across the county. The trend encourages theft and vandalism of school property. Students film themselves engaging in these acts and post the footage on various social media sites. In addition, some of these acts have caused serious injury to others.

We are asking for your help. Please speak to your teen about this trend. Remind them that these acts are criminal behavior and significant school consequences, including involvement of law enforcement, could occur if they participate in theft and/or vandalism of school property.

COVID-19 TESTING OPPORTUNITIES TO BEGIN NEXT WEEK

GUHSD has partnered with
Embry Health for eight of our nine schools to be host sites for drive-thru COVID-19 testing. Drive-thru testing will be available in many of our schools' parking lots beginning next week.

More information, including days and hours of operation, will be sent to you directly from the school.

COVID-19 REMINDERS

GUHSD is still asking for your continued support to keep our students safely learning in-person. It is important that if your teen feels ill, has tested positive for COVID-19, has COVID-19 symptoms, or had close contact with someone who has tested positive with COVID-19, that they stay home.

We ask for the parent/guardian to notify the
school if their teen is feeling ill or has a positive COVID-19 diagnosis and/or has been in close contact with a person who has tested positive for COVID-19.

*NEW* COVID-19 VACCINATION EVENTS

Our most recent COVID-19 vaccination events were a success. As a service to our community, we will be partnering with Fry’s Pharmacy and will be hosting two additional vaccine events on September 29th and October 6th.

Please save the dates. Additional details will be provided in next week’s email.

The district will partner with
Embry Health for eight of our nine schools to be host sites for drive-thru COVID-19 testing.

Embry Health is finalizing the logistics and preparations to be able to offer the service.  As soon as we have the starting date and hours of operation we will pass them on to you and the rest of the community.

STAY HOME WHEN SICK

It is important for all students to perform a daily health screening prior to coming to school each day. The health screening includes the following questions to ask:

            -Are you feeling ill,

-Do you have a temperature of 100.4 degrees or higher, and/or

-Have you been exposed to someone with COVID-19?

If your teen answers yes to any of the above questions, they are expected to stay home. We ask the parent/guardian to report the absence by calling the school’s attendance line.

It is equally important that a parent/guardian notify the
school if your teen has had a positive COVID-19 diagnosis and/or has been in close contact with a person who has tested positive for COVID-19.

MASKS

More information will be emailed to you early next week.

PSAT: PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT
GUHSD teens can sign-up to take the PSAT, a preparatory exam that high school sophomores and juniors take to indicate how prepared they are for the SAT exam.
The benefits of the PSAT include discovering your teen’s strong points and identifying any need for improvement in subject areas. Your teen will also be more prepared and have a better idea of what to expect when it is time to take the SAT exam.
Additionally, students who take the PSAT in 11th grade and meet requirements may enter the National Merit Scholarship Program, an academic competition for recognition and scholarships.
All GUHSD schools will be offering the PSAT in October. The cost of the test is $18. Space is limited. Please visit your teen’s
school counseling department for more information.
NO SCHOOL ON MONDAY

In observance of Labor Day, all GUHSD schools and the district office will be closed on Monday, September 6.

The following information was sent to parents via email and phone dialer.

Dear GUHSD Parents/Guardians:

GUHSD is continuing its effort to keep everyone on campus, excelling in the classroom, and participating in extracurricular activities, but the continued spread of COVID-19 is not allowing all our students and staff to be on campus, due to positive cases and the Maricopa County’s quarantining process.

We need your help. We are asking that everyone practice mitigation strategies in order to continue offering in-person learning.

Please see the following updates that include mitigation strategies designed to slow the spread of COVID-19 in our schools:

  • GUHSD MITIGATION STRATEGIES & UPGRADED HVAC SYSTEMS
  • STAY HOME WHEN SICK
  • MASKS
  • COVID-19 VACCINATION INFORMATION

GUHSD MITIGATION EFFORTS & UPGRADED HVAC SYSTEMS

GUHSD’s mitigation efforts continue to evolve as public health officials provide new guidance. Our comprehensive mitigation plan demonstrates our commitment to maintaining a healthy and safe learning and working environment for our students and faculty/staff.

As previously communicated, the plan to keep our schools safe includes, but is not limited to, handwashing and respiratory etiquette, staying home when sick, contact tracing in combination with quarantine and isolation, and cleaning and disinfecting.

As a reminder, GUHSD invested in upgrades and improvements to our HVAC systems, which included higher-rated HVAC filters. These filters allow for the removal of smog, smoke, coughing, and sneezing particles. The district also purchased
Modular Needlepoint Bipolar Ionization sterilization systems. These systems have the following benefits:

  • Needlepoint ion technology reaches down into the space and kills pathogens/viruses at the source before they can infect healthy occupants
  • In lab testing, the Needlepoint ion technology was able to inactivate up to 99.4% of SARS-CoV-2

All these efforts, along with numerous others included in our mitigation plan, are key to providing a healthy and safe learning environment for our students and faculty/staff.

here to read more about GUHSD’s Mitigation Plan.

STAY HOME WHEN SICK

As a partner in helping keep classrooms and schools COVID-free, it is imperative that your teen stay home when they feel ill. This is an important step in helping to keep our students, faculty/staff, and community healthy.

As a reminder, federal law requires masks to be worn while riding a school bus.

COVID-19 VACCINATION INFORMATION

According to the CDC, AZDHS, and MCDPH, vaccines continue to be another one of the top mitigation strategies to stop the spread of COVID-19.

Health experts at the national, state, and county-level agree that the vaccine is an effective and powerful tool that dramatically reduces your chances of getting COVID-19. Additionally, increasing the vaccination rate in a community is a key factor in reducing the spread of the virus.

The COVID-19 vaccine is free and available at many sites throughout the valley. Click
here to find a location near you.

CLOSING REMARKS

Thank you for your continued partnership and support of our schools and our district. We are honored to serve our GUHSD students and families.

We must all work together to make our schools as safe as possible for students, faculty, and staff. While GUHSD is taking measures to reduce the risk of spreading COVID-19, we need our families to do the same.

Engaging in the GUHSD mitigation strategies increases our chances of being able to continue providing a world-class learning experience in person. It also increases our chances of our students being able to continue participating in athletics, clubs, and other extracurricular activities.

As always, we continue to be available to answer questions and/or address concerns. Our
schools’ phone numbers and email addresses are easily accessible from the websites.

August 13, 2021 -
The following information was sent to parents via email and phone dialer.

Dear GUHSD Parents/Guardians:

GUHSD had a great first week of the 2021-2022 school year. We are grateful to have all our students back on campus for an in-person learning experience.

Today we are providing you with the following updates:

  • MASKS
  • VACCINATIONS
  • STAY HOME WHEN SICK
  • MITIGATION EFFORTS
  • GUHSD COVID-19 DATA DASHBOARD
  • CALENDAR OF EVENTS

MASKS

Per AZ State law, GUHSD is not able to mandate the use of masks. While we cannot mandate masks, we strongly recommend that everyone on GUHSD campuses follow the CDC masking recommendations.

The
CDC recommends universal indoor masking for all teachers, staff, students, and visitors to K-12 schools, regardless of vaccination status.

Per federal law, masks are still required while riding on a school bus.

VACCINATIONS

According to the CDC, getting vaccinated is the leading public health prevention strategy to end the COVID-19 pandemic.

Per AZ State law, the district cannot require students, staff or visitors to be vaccinated. We can, however, provide resources on where you and your family members can receive a COVID-19 vaccination. Click here for more information on free vaccination clinics in your area.

GUHSD is finalizing details with health providers and is planning to host community vaccination events. More details will be provided next week.

STAY HOME WHEN SICK

Prior to coming to school, we ask all students to perform a daily health screening.

Those who are feeling ill, have a temperature of 100.4 degrees or higher, and/or have been exposed to someone with COVID should stay home from school.

A parent/guardian should contact the
school to report the absence.

MITIGATION EFFORTS

A comprehensive mitigation plan demonstrates that GUHSD remains committed to maintaining a healthy and safe learning and work environment for our students and faculty/staff.

GUHSD MITIGATION PLAN - As part of our health and safety plan, GUHSD has a layered mitigation approach to help reduce the spread of COVID. The plan to keep our schools safe includes upgraded ventilation systems, hand washing and respiratory etiquette, staying home when sick, contact tracing in combination with quarantine and isolation, and cleaning and disinfecting.

Dear GUHSD Parents/Guardians:

We are extremely excited to welcome back our students on Monday, August 9. We know our students are going to accomplish great things during the 2021-2022 school year.

In order to have a successful start to school, we want to provide you with our most recent updates, which include the following:

  • FACE COVERINGS/MASKS WHILE AT SCHOOL
  • FACE COVERINGS/MASKS WHILE ON SCHOOL BUSES
  • COVID RELATED WEBSITE UPDATES

FACE COVERINGS/MASKS WHILE AT SCHOOL

The CDC’s most recent mask guidance recommends universal indoor masking for all faculty/staff, students, and visitors to K-12 schools, regardless of vaccination status. Please note that the AZDHS and the MCDPH also have the same recommendations.

While it is incumbent upon the district to follow state law, which does not allow school districts to make masks mandatory, we acknowledge that wearing masks is an effective mitigation strategy to help communities slow the spread of COVID when worn consistently and correctly.

Therefore, we are strongly recommending that everyone wear a mask while indoors at any of our schools.

FACE COVERINGS/MASKS WHILE ON SCHOOL BUSES

Masks are required by federal order on school buses and other forms of public transportation. Following this federal order, GUHSD will require face masks while on school buses.

Students will need to provide their own mask that covers the mouth and nose area.

COVID RELATED WEBSITE UPDATES

The GUHSD website has been updated with information relating directly to COVID. You can access the information from the navigation bar at the top of the homepage of each school’s website.

We encourage you to visit the site for helpful links to COVID related information such as:

July 28, 2021 -
The following information was sent to parents via email and phone dialer.

Dear GUHSD Parents/Guardians:

Our first day of school - Monday, August 9 - is quickly approaching.

GUHSD continues to track the latest developments related to COVID-19 and the opening of schools. We remain committed to ensuring the health and safety of faculty/staff and students.

Today, we are providing you a brief summary of our updated COVID-19 Mitigation Strategies for the 2021-2022 school year. The following health and safety protocols are aligned with the guidance from national, state and local health agencies, and the AZ Governor’s office.

BRIEF SUMMARY OF COVID-19 MITIGATION STRATEGIES

Before Leaving Home: Teens should adhere to the daily health screening protocol for COVID-19 symptoms prior to leaving for school, which include the following:

  • Not feeling ill
  • Not having a temperature of 100.4 degrees or higher, and/or
  • Not being exposed to someone who has the COVID-19 virus

Teens with any of the above symptoms should stay home and contact the school nurse.

Face Coverings/Masks: Current state law does not allow school districts to make masks mandatory. Therefore, masks will be optional while on GUHSD campuses. However, the CDC’s newest mask guidance recommends universal indoor masking for all faculty/staff, students, and visitors to K-12 schools, regardless of vaccination status.

PPE and Hygiene: PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) will continue to be available to students and staff who request them. Hand sanitizer stations will continue to be available on all campuses.

Social Distancing: Individuals will be encouraged to socially distance three feet apart or to the greatest extent possible.

Quarantine: GUHSD will follow CDC quarantine guidelines when students and/or faculty/staff are exposed to COVID-19.

Additional Measures:

  • Disinfecting high-touch surfaces throughout the day
  • Sanitizing the cafeteria and outside eating areas
  • Supporting teachers and staff with the sanitization supplies needed

Additional updates may be made in accordance with the Arizona Department of Public Health (ADHS), Centers for Disease Control (CDC), Executive Orders issued by Governor Doug Ducey and GUHSD.

MASKS & VACCINES

The Governor of AZ recently approved and signed into law the state budget which includes a provision that prohibits counties, cities, towns, schools and school districts from requiring students or staff to wear face coverings during school hours and on property. Schools are also prohibited from requiring COVID-19 vaccines. House Bill 2898, Section 15-342.05 Face coverings: requirement prohibition

As we move into a new school year, GUHSD schools will continue practicing many health and safety measures already in place. Additionally, GUHSD schools will be adhering to the following:

  • MASKS - Masks will not be required while attending a GUHSD school. However, anyone wanting to continue wearing a mask can do so.

  • VACCINES - Students and/or faculty/staff will not be required to have a COVID-19 vaccine.
