25 Year Employee Recognition

May 2010 - The GUHSD Governing Board recognized the following 25 year employees at their annual employee recognition event on May 19, 2010.


Apollo High School


malandSue Maland

Sue Maland has with the district since 1985. Sue’s Prior experience before her current position as Apollo High Schools Principal were:  APSS, Lead Curriculum Coordinator, and English teacher at Sunnyslope High School. Sue’s extracurricular responsibilities are Site Council Co-Chair, Department Chair, AIMS Committees. Sue says her most memorable experiences has been each graduation because of all the excitement and the ceremony of graduation held every year.

prado Susan Prado

Susan Prado Ortiz is being recognized for serving 25 years in the Glendale Union High School District.  Sue is a wonderful member of the Apollo staff and totally immersed in her teaching and coaching.
Currently, Sue is the freshman volleyball coach during the fall sports season, the varsity girls’ basketball coach during the winter season, and the varsity girls’ softball coach in the spring.  She coaches 3 sports, is the Physical Education department chair, and a girls’ PE teacher. This past year she had a fabulous basketball season, which was the highlight of Sue’s coaching life and definitely a proud moment for Apollo. Our Lady Hawks played in the championship game of the state basketball playoffs at jobing.com arena. 

Cortez High School

Jacquelyn Parmeley started out her teaching career in the GUHSD at Cortez High School in August of 1985 as a Math teacher, where she worked until 1990. She transferred to Independence for the 1990 -1991 school year, and then she traveled to Sunnyslope High School to teach Math until 2003. After that she made a career change to administration and was hired full circle back at Cortez High School as Assistant Principal for Discipline and Attendance.   Jackie continues to serve at Cortez as the Dean and has found a home keeping the students in line. 

Moon Valley High School

carlsonVeronica Carlson

Veronica is a Math Teacher and Title I Coordinator.  She teaches Algebra II and serves as Algebra II PLC Team Leader.  As Title I Coordinator Veronica led the change at Moon Valley from a target assisted school to a school-wide Title I program. Veronica is a Moon Valley High School Graduate.  She completed a bachelors of science in education from NAU, and a Masters of Education from ASU. Veronica has spent her entire teaching career at MVHS. Her most memorable experience: In 2007, she was filmed in a documentary, “The elements of Style: Effective High School teaching in the US.” It was a neat experience to see/hear the student interviews.

Thunderbird High School

hansenHugh Hansen

Mr. Hansen began teaching at Thunderbird in August of 1985.  During his time at Thunderbird he has taught freshman science, chemistry, honors chemistry, and geometry.  He is currently teaching Algebra II, Honors Physics, and AP Physics.  He has been a chess coach, track coach, softball coach, filmed football games, worked the scorer’s table for basketball, sponsored Unitown and sponsored the National Honor Society.  Mr. Hansen has served on the Honors and Awards committee, Title One, and served as a GUEA Representative.

Linda Rosness is currently our Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources. Linda has been with the district since 1985. Linda’s prior experience before residing at the district office was: English teacher, counselor, Assistant Dean, Assistant Principal of Attendance and Discipline, Assistant Principal of Operations and Resources, and Principal of Moon Valley High School. Linda says, “Every year has been memorable. It has been a joy to work with our students, teachers, staff and administrators; and my dedicated and loyal Human Resources team. “
