Glendale High School's Centennial Celebration Kicks Off

October 2011- In celebration of its centennial, Glendale High School will be hosting multiple activities on-campus from Tuesday, October 11 to Friday, October 14.

The celebration begins Tuesday at 6 p.m. with the first GUHSD NFL celebrity basketball game.  Retired NFL players will suit up and take on the state's original Cardinals, Glendale High School.  Faculty and staff members from GHS will take on these football greats in a game benefitting charity. Tickets for this event are $5 for students and $8 for adults, and the game is open to the public.

On Wednesday, Glendale High’s various student clubs will run a carnival, starting at 6 p.m., followed by a bonfire.  Both events are open to the public.

Thursday’s activities begin at 4 p.m. with a “walk to remember,” where former students, staff, and administrators can view all of the changes the campus has undergone in the past 100 years.  Also, dedication ceremonies will be held in the GHS auditorium at 6 p.m., renaming facilities after influential members of the Glendale High community.  Honorees include the Heatwole family, the Pullins family, Clyda Jean Martin Owen, and Dan Lindsey.  After the dedication, there will be a car show and live performances by GHS theater, choir, and band.

Friday’s events include a homecoming parade down Glendale Avenue at 1 p.m., the opening of a decades-old time capsule at GHS at 3 p.m., an alumni tailgate party at 4:30 p.m., the homecoming football game at 6:30 p.m., and an alumni dance for those who are 21 and older from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m.
