GUHSD DECA Chapters Participate in National Competitions

DECA Students Have Opportunity to Compete at the International Level

December 2012- Some GUHSD DECA Chapters recently competed online in the DECA Virtual Business Challenges against schools in 14 other states and part of Canada. These challenges include operating computerized simulations related to personal finance, retail management, restaurant management or sports marketing. This competition is sponsored by H&R Block and more than a thousand students competed in each event.

In the Restaurant category, Anthony Franciscus from Greenway placed first in the region and second in the nation. He now has the opportunity to compete in the international competition. Loui Ferrar placed 2nd in the region and fourth in the nation. Typically, Loui would be able to compete at the international level but because DECA has a rule that only one person or team from each chapter can represent at the international level in each category, the third place team in the region will get to compete internationally instead. Lisa Falkner and Rene Grijalva from Apollo happened to be third in the region and now have the opportunity to participate in the international competition.

In the Finance category, Farhan Khera, Michael Norris and Alec Goding from Greenway placed 3rd in the region.

In the Retail category, John Butler, Justin Ferralez and Emmanuel Ocampo from Greenway placed 4th in the region.

Greenway had more Top 25 region winners than any other school in the nation.

Congratulations to these students on this awesome accomplishment!
