Moon Valley High School Recognizes Achievement Above All Recipients

Special Ceremony Recognizes MVHS Teacher, Student, Support Staff Member, Student Group and Volunteer
December 2012- The GUHSD Governing Board and Moon Valley High School Principal, Craig Mussi, recently recognized Moon Valley's Achievement Above All recipients. Each school's event highlights the accomplishments and commitments of a teacher, a student, a support staff members, student group and a volunteer.

Melanie Allen was recognized as Moon Valley's Achievement Above All teacher recipient. Allen is a product of MVHS herself and now teaches Journalism, READ 180 and English 1-2 at MVHS. Allen has been involved in many Moon Valley activities, coaching Colorguard, JV Softball and serving as a sponsor and coordinator for Rocket Town. "I've had the pleasure of working with Melanie for over 6 years. I can honestly say she is one of the most dedicated educators I have ever been around," says Principal Craig Mussi of Allen.

Catherine Pinkerton was recognized as Moon Valley's Achievement Above All student recipient. Pinkerton is ranked at the top of her class, carrying a 4.0 GPA. Pinkerton is an active leader in the theater program at Moon Valley. She has received several theater awards, including Director of the Year. Pinkerton plans to attend the University of Arizona and is looking at pursuing a degree in the medical field. "We congratulate Catherine on her accomplishments and wish her the best in all future endeavors," says Principal Craig Mussi.

Debbie Gray was recognized as Moon Valley's Achievement Above All support staff recipient. Gray is a long-time member of the Glendale Union High School District. She attended Cortez High School and worked at Washington High School for 6 years. She has been the Attendance Secretary at Moon Valley for the past 10 years. She hopes to retire in the near future. "Debbie has a challenging position and helps to lead a busy team," says Principal Craig Mussi.

Moon Valley's Student Council was recognized as the Achievement Above All student group recipient. Student Council is sponsored by Ashley Burns and Jenna Serafini. The group's mission is to create a positive culture on campus through school spirit, school activities and community service. 34 students are a part of Student Council. The group leads a long-list of campus activities, including, Spirit Week, Rocket Nights, Homecoming, spirit lunches and blood drives. The group has been recognized at spirit conventions for their outstanding leadership. The group plans to increase school spirit and have more activities for the MVHS student body in the near future. "Student Council provides so much for our campus. These students serve as role models, never expecting accolades for their work," says Principal Craig Mussi of the group.

Edward and Yvette Carlon were recognized as Moon Valley's Volunteers of the Year. The Carlons have been involved in several areas of Moon Valley, including, Parent Boosters, serving on Site Council and volunteering at MVHS football games. The Carlons have four boys, all of whom have attended or currently attend Moon Valley. "We are so thankful for parents who provide assistance on our campus but when you have two parens such as these, you can't say thank you enough. They have played a major role in the success that occurs on our campus," says Principal Craig Mussi of the Carlons.
