GUHSD Runners Place 6th at the USA Track and Field Nationals
December 2012- Top cross country athletes from four GUHSD schools came together to compete as one team and place 6th at the USA Track & Field National Cross Country Championships. The students involved in the competition not only run during the high school cross-country season but are also part of the Glendale Flash Running Club. Prior to nationals, the team placed first in the state competition and second in regionals, where teams from Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas all competed.

The USATF competition took place in Albuquerque, New Mexico and each GUHSD runner completed the 5K course in the Top 100. Members of the running team include, Alex Bates from Sunnyslope High School, who finished 16th in the nation, Jorge Pineda of Moon Valley, Jesus Gutierrez and Ramel Morales of Glendale High School, and Albert Ramirez of Independence High School.

The Junior Olympic National meet represents the highest level of competition for cross-country racing at the high school level.

Congratulations to these runners on this outstanding accomplishment!
