February 2015 -  The GUHSD Governing Board has selected Mr. Brian Capistran as the District's new superintendent, pending contract negotiations. Mr. Capistran is currently the Associate Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction for the district.

Members of the community had the opportunity to meet Mr. Capistran and the other finalists for the position Thursday, February 26, at a public forum. Today, the Governing Board conducted interviews before convening a meeting to select Mr. Capistran. He will replace Mr. Eugene Dudo, who is retiring at the end of the school year after 27 years with the district, 3 of them as superintendent.

Mr. Capistran will begin his new position on July 1, 2015.

Mr. Brian Capistran's Bio: Mr. Brian Capistran has been with the Glendale Union High School District his entire professional life. After a successful career as a classroom teacher, he began utilizing his strengths in education and leadership in his various administrative roles. Prior to accepting his current position as the Associate Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction, he served as Assistant Superintendent of Student Services, School Safety Administrator, Principal, and Assistant Principal. 

Mr. Capistran’s professional preparation includes a BA in Secondary Education from the University of Arizona and a Masters of Arts in Education from the University of Phoenix. He is currently pursuing his Doctorate in Organizational Leadership at Grand Canyon University.

He has applied his professional preparation and his extensive experience to make many contributions to the success of the Glendale Union High School District.  Mr. Capistran has been a member of the district- level leadership team that has worked with local administration, faculty and staff to focus on student success. Some results of this collaborative effort were the district being named the Advanced Placement District of the Year for 2013, and in 2014 all nine schools in the Glendale Union High School District earned an “A” rating from the Arizona Department of Education. 

Brian is married to his wife, Marcela, and together they have two sons, Christian and Andrew.
