Dear Parents/Guardians,

As we near the end of February, I wanted to take a moment to update you on some important happenings at our school. It’s a crucial time for our students to stay focused and finish the quarter strong. Encourage your teen to make the most of this time by completing assignments and preparing for any upcoming assessments.

I also want to take this opportunity to remind you that Spring Break is quickly approaching, scheduled for March 18th through March 22nd. During this time, our school will be closed for the week. Please plan accordingly and take this opportunity to enjoy some time with your family.

Spring is also a time for exciting sports events and competitions at our school. Our student athletes have been working tirelessly to represent our school with pride and excellence. Please join us in supporting them as they compete and showcase their talents in various sports and events throughout the season. Check the school’s website for dates and times of upcoming activities.

I’m pleased to share that we continue to see remarkable accomplishments from our students and school community:

  • Cortez has been awarded with the highest state-level honor a public school can receive from the Arizona Educational Foundation, the A+ School of Excellence Award.
  • Our Boys Basketball team was ranked 13th in the state and made it to the second round of playoffs.
  • Two of our Welding students brought home first place medals at the Skills USA Region 2 Competition: Abdias Rojas and Yairan Castro
  • Student Council was awarded with first place at the GUHSD convention.
  • Congratulations to our January Colts with CLASS: David Perdomo Chourio, Shahad Al Mufti, Gisel Murillo, and Eh Htoo
  • We had two athletes compete in the state wrestling tournament: Alex Soleimani took 2nd place and Abdias Rojas 6th place.

Whether it’s academic achievements, extracurricular success, or acts of kindness and leadership, our students consistently demonstrate their dedication and potential.

As always, I want to stress the importance of regular school attendance. Consistent attendance is directly linked to academic successes, and your support in ensuring your teenager attends school regularly is invaluable. If your teen is facing challenges academically, please don’t hesitate to reach out to their teachers or counselors for support and guidance. Together, we can provide the necessary resources and assistance to help your teen succeed.

Lastly, I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to each and every one of you for your unwavering support and partnership in your teen’s education. Your involvement and encouragement make a significant difference in your high schooler’s journey, and we are truly grateful for your continued support.
