Social Studies
Students are required to complete three years of social studies,
which includes World History and Geography,
United States History/Geography, and
Civics/Economics.
The Glendale Union High School Social Studies curriculum
provides students with the ability to demonstrate knowledge
and understanding of history, geography, economic, political,
and social institutions of Arizona, the United States, and
the world in order to think critically and participate responsibly
in a democratic society. Elective courses may be offered and
are determined by local schools. Sociology is offered at Greenway
High School and Psychology is offered at Thunderbird High
School.
Social studies coordinator is Phyllis Gendreau.
World History/Geography Course
Outcome
Students will be able to identify, describe, and explain
key themes, events, terms, patterns, beliefs, causal relationships,
and turning points in World History.

United States History/Geography
Course Outcome
Students will be able to demonstrate analytical skills and
have the ability to interpret significant patterns, themes,
ideas, beliefs, and turning points in United States History.

Civics/Economics
Students will be able to reach an informed position and construct
a thoughtful argument utilizing appropriate knowledge of government,
