GUHSD Receives 2025 Golden Bell Promise Award for Attendance Matters Initiative

The Glendale Union High School District (GUHSD) is proud to announce that it has received the 2025 Golden Bell Promise Award for High Schools from the Arizona School Boards Association (ASBA). This prestigious statewide recognition honors district initiatives that maximize the promise in every student and demonstrate measurable growth, success, and equity.

GUHSD was recognized for its Attendance Matters: Show Up, Keep Up campaign, a districtwide initiative launched in 2023 with the support of the GUHSD Governing Board. The campaign was designed to address chronic absenteeism by reinforcing the importance of daily attendance, strengthening communication with families, building positive relationships, and implementing early intervention strategies to support students.

A Student-Focused Initiative with Measurable Impact

The Golden Bell Promise Program Awards highlight initiatives that are student-oriented, demonstrate district leadership, and show a commitment to educational equity and strong outcomes for all students. Attendance Matters meets these criteria by placing student success at the center of the work and ensuring consistent support across all GUHSD schools.

In just two years, the district has seen more than 5,700 fewer student absences, a significant achievement that has contributed to higher GPAs and improved graduation outcomes. These results underscore a simple but powerful message: showing up matters.
