Back-to-School: GUHSD Students Return to Campus on August 10
The first day of school is almost here! Glendale Union High School District is excited to welcome students back to campus on Monday, August 10, for the start of the 2026–2027 school year.
Whether you're returning for another year or beginning your high school journey as a freshman, starting the school year prepared sets the stage for a successful semester. From attending walk-through registration to establishing strong attendance habits, there are several important steps families can take before the first bell rings.
Start the Year Strong with Great Attendance
Success begins on the first day of school. Attending school consistently helps students build positive routines, stay connected with their teachers, and avoid falling behind academically. Making attendance a priority from day one establishes habits that support learning, engagement, and long-term success throughout the school year. Every school day offers valuable opportunities to participate in classroom instruction, collaborate with peers, and engage in extracurricular activities.
Attend Walk-Through Registration
GUHSD schools will host walk-through registration events during the week of July 27-July 31. These events are designed to help students and families prepare for the first day of school by completing important back-to-school tasks in one visit.
Students may be able to:
- Pick up their class schedule
- Take their student ID photo
- Update important student information
- Receive campus-specific information
- Complete other back-to-school requirements
Since registration dates and times vary by campus, families are encouraged to visit their school's website for the latest schedule and event details.
Bring Required Immunization Records
Walk-through registration is also an important time for families to ensure required health records are submitted. Arizona law requires all students to have up-to-date immunizations to attend school. If your student is new to GUHSD or a freshman, please bring their immunization records to walk-through registration. Apply for Free or Reduced-Price Meals
Families are encouraged to complete the application for free or reduced-price school meals before the school year begins. Even if you believe your family may not qualify, submitting an application can help provide additional funding and resources that benefit schools and students across the district. Clear Bag Policy for After-School Events
Beginning with the 2026–2027 school year, Glendale Union High School District is implementing a Clear Bag Policy for all after-school sports and extracurricular events held at district high schools. The policy is designed to enhance safety for students, staff, and visitors while creating a more efficient entry process for everyone attending district events. Welcome Back for the 2026-2027 School Year
As August 10 approaches, students and families should visit their school's website for important first-day information. Some campuses may have modified schedules on the first day of school, so checking your school's website in advance can help ensure a smooth start.
