Cortez Assembles Thanksgiving Food Boxes for Needy Families
December 2009 - Annually faculty and staff come together to help families in need who might otherwise not be able to celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday. Canned foods, bags of stuffing, turkeys and much more is collected and placed in nicely decorated boxes by READ 180 students under the direction of the Title 1 coordinator Lindsay Bray (see photo below). Chosen families are contacted and the food boxes are distributed by staff. In addition, culinary students made pumpkin bread and the upper level students made pies for the families. They also provided a Thanksgiving dinner to the maintenance team as a thank you for all of their hard work. Thank you to all the faculty, staff and students for making Thanksgiving special to several deserving families.
