This is the image for the news article titled Latest Report on State Budget Cuts to Education ReleasedSeptember 2013- The Center on Budget and Policy Priorities recently released figures regarding state budget cuts to education. The report shows that Arizona was one of the hardest hit states in the recent recession. This national report shows that when adjusted for inflation, education spending in Arizona is 17.2% lower in this fiscal year, compared to 2008. Without adjusting for inflation, the numbers still show education spending in Arizona is down 8.8%.

A recent positive sign is that for the first time in several years, the funding formula used for education was increased for inflation, however it may take several years to recover for the past. However, as the state recovers it is our hope that lawmakers will realize that a dramatic increase in state revenues needs to be put back into the classrooms and provide adequate funding to our public schools.
